The randomness of essence. [07 Jun 2009|11:53am]
[ mood | I'm Awake, at least... ]
[ music | The Who - Bargain ]

Okay, here's the plan for Necromancer Wars as it currently stands.

We have the main series, where, while there is little to be shown, is the core series once I get to work on it. This is canonical for Necromancer Wars:

Book 1, "The Lich", comprised of three subsections ("The Mistake", "Repentance", and "Reparations")
Book 2, "The Pillar", comprised of three subsections ("The Rumor", "The Curse", and "The Promise")
Book 3, "The War", comprised of three subsections ("The Castle", "The Corruption", and "The Purification")

We also have a couple of side stories, which is where most of the work in terms of stuff to show has been done, but have little bearing on the main three stories mentioned above.

Another, comprised of three subsections ("Mercenaries", "Diplomats", and "Heroes"). This is analogous to Colora: The Path of Color.
Another Again, comprised of a currently unknown number of subsections. This is analogous to Vomage: Genesis.

All five of these have been planned out in terms of what happens in what order, both in-story as well as in the general scheme of things. While each book will be made to be able to stand on its own, the three main books of the series would be like Lord of the Rings; to get the whole story, you would need to read them in order. However, it's also like the Redwall series in the respect that the stories take place at drastically different times within the universe - meaning that you won't pick up with what happens to Delmar after sealing Lementil within the Ruby Pillar if you start on The Pillar; rather, you'll be learning about Art Hyur and his adventures in the Western Deserts.

I must still figure out how to get the Ruby Pillar into all of the stories. With Book 1 and Another, it'll be easy since the pillar is on their continent to begin with. Now that I think about it, it doesn't even need to appear in Another at all, since it's about what happens to a certain cursed person who will appear in The Pillar.

Now, I really should shut up and get to work making the damn things.

Bubonic Plague, better known as the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consequences_of_the_Black_Death> BLACK FRIGGIN' DEATH<a/>, was singlehandedly responsible for killing 200 Million People in Middle-Ages Europe... back before cars could go 65 MPH on the freeway, and before you could go from Kyoto to France overnight. The strain in question is, apparently, a more virulent form of it. Is anyone else seriously scared by this? The side-streets of Cincinnati

There's Gilsey, my home street, which connects to Sunset. From there, we reach Rapid Run, and from there on some side streets. One of them leads to West Eighth, which lets you on Pedretti. Pedretti down to Delhi, all the way to Neeb, and...

wait, that puts you at the Mount.

There's Gilsey, my home street, which becomes Guerley after Sunset. Take Guerley up to Dunham, and wander around a bit. Eventually you'll walk to Ferguson, which, when you turn left...

wait, that puts you at Dater.

There's Gilsey, my home street, which to the left goes Glenway. Glenway to downtown will eventually go, but a left at Grand will...

wait, that puts you at Roberts.

There's Gilsey, my home street, take a left and left again. That's Talbert - only a block up from my home. take Talbert past Iliff, and left onto First. Follow first down until you see some stairs, that's Latham at Manss, follow down the hill to reach Beech. Turn Right to reach West Liberty, then left until Quebec. Head down to Quebec and turn left, follow to Queen City, then left again. When you get to Sunset, turn left again. Left onto Gilsey...

wait, we just went in a circle, didn't we?

On Life and Living [07 Oct 2008|02:48pm]
When I think of death, I think of a peaceful sleep, a quiet slumber of the body. The soul presses onward, moving forward, always forward, trying to learn and grow still, even without the bpody. Yet, when the whole is divided, there is no progression. Body, Spirit and Mind - Together make the soul. Only as the soul can a being learn.

Spirit
Body
Mind
Spirit+Body= Vegetable
Spirit+Mind= Ghost
Mind + Body= ???
All Three = Soul

Anyway, getting back to the topic, the dead need not be feared, neither should death be feared. I know how I want to die: with family in my arms, my grandchildren by my side, ready to meet/wait for my wife in the life after this one. Ah, but even then, life is not over. Death is but something that our bodies must experience in order for our souls ton be sanctified. We humans fear death because we cannot commune with the dead. Now without disastrous consequences, at any rate; we also fear those things which we cannot understand. We know not why we must die, but all men have a theory. Mine just happens to be that it is necessary for salvation; both death and what comes after.

Not to say that our actions are unimportant. Quite the contrary, for who we become in this life is who we will remain as in the life to come. A liar will still try to lie, lovers will still love, and the greedy will desire more than they have. But, without the body, lies are useless, love is pure emotion, and greed will cause insanity; all because they require flesh, the body, in order to manifest and appease.

I will continue to write my characters in this manner: If they do not try to avoid their own deaths, nor use darkness to save others, then they are good. If they try to preserve the lives of others through dark means (Necromancy, &c), then they are dark yet good. If they seek merely to avoid death for themselves with no thought for others' well being, then they are dark and selfish.

Death is just as sacred as life, for without it, would we know what life truly is?

Ah,yeah. I had shepherd's pie last night. I less than three shepherd's pie. With the ground beef, tomatoes, green beans, onions, potatoes, cheese... it's a meal all by itself. Hooray for Shepherd's Pie! But, our conversation needs to go elsewhere. Does Sarah Palin like Shepherd's Pie? Does Joe Biden like Shepherd's Pie? What about Obama and McCain? Do they like Shepherd's Pie, or have they been away from Middle America for too long o know what a home cooked meal is like?

I can cook some things for myself. I know how o cook French Toast... I'm more of a breakfast chef. My kid brother is more of a dessert chef, and my sister likes to help out with dinners. My mom makes the best cheesecake you'll ever eat. I'll have to get a copy of her recipie and practice it. My dad's pancakes are HUGE! They'd probably fill up Paul Bunyan and his men. My grandfather, that is, my Mom's dad, is a navy chef, and his wife, my Grandmother, has picked up a lot of cool tricks form him. I love visiting them :). My Grandma, my Dad's mom (Wow, I never realized that I made the distinction in writing... huh) does all sorts of foods, and I think that it's from her mother's years in the Depression.

Casseroles and the like are some of my favorites, but you just can't beat Chicken and Dumplings, especially when it was a chicken you had killed by hand only hours ago. Oh man, it may have been six years ago, but I can still taste that meal. I remember that meal like it was yesterday. My Grandmother taught me how to clean out a chicken, and I finally learned what Giblets were. I like Giblets. I never get Giblets. I WANT GIBLETS!

I've never had rabbit, and I don't think I've had venison. I refuse to eat bear meat, but I love seafood.

Happy Place [01 Oct 2008|09:09am]
A field of green, overlooked by an old, derelict tower. There are flowers growing here, and a small, clear stream flows past. Random carnivores and herbivores are wandering around this place of peace, without bohering each other.

Now the scene changes. A vast system of caves and tunnels. The same stream flows by. There are some bats resting, and you can hear the echoes of the tune that you are humming. Peaceful, but not quite the happy place.

A tower of pure granite, magically suspended in the clods is our next destination. Cold stone, and a way to view the world without being in it. A Sky dragon flies past, its wings glistening with the morning dew. Some dragonflies hover near me, as the lake within the tower awakens, and with fishing pole in hand, I ease into the day's work.

Now, another scene change. There is no relaxing here, as this is chotic, turbulent, unpredictable. Some things seem familiar, but it is all an illusion created by the unknown masses of people. Yet, there is an item that is persistent in its existance, a beacon of... bacon? A random place. Enjoyable, but not relaxing.

A green field again. There are pigs and lambs running wild here, being chased by a new, young shepherd. The stream again, and I go in to swim. It is a slow-moving stream, unusual for its size, but I love this place. There is a grove of lime trees nearby, and I continually find myself in their tops, munching on my fruit of choice.

The sun is setting, the moon is rising. A bonfire grows and glows in the night. My friends from the cave, tower, and random place have joined me

Gestalt and Occam (Random Thought) [25 Sep 2008|08:55am]
Occam's Razor: The simplest explanation is usually the right one.

Gestalt's Corollary: The human psyche automatically simplifies everything into the simplest way to percieve it possible, due to the simple way as generally the most correct way to describe it.

Raekuul's Denial: Just because simple is good does not mean that the human intellect should be minimalized for the sake of making the world easier.

Pets -

What is a pet? Is it a non-human that has been designated as a companion to humans? If so, why can't I have a cicada as a pet?
I've owned... 4 pets. Huh, that's odd. We talk about pets as though they were possessions, not as companions. We own them, yet we show them affection.
Anyway, Pet #1 was Bear, a Collie-Chow with a mean streak a mile wide. We had rescued him from Dogfighters. He was already named bear, but the name stuck with me due to my line "Mommy, there's a BEAR in the house!" (I was 4 years old at the time).
Pet #2 is Grendle. Or is it Grendel? He was a replacement for Bear after #1 ran off. My uncle felt sorry for letting Bear run off on his watch, so he picked up a pup at a flea market for us. We still have him, and he's 8 years now. His biggest quirk? He thinks that there's a death-ray in the front yard that killed Bear and Tiger.
Pet #3 was Tiger. Grey Cat. Had his leg broken when Grendel tried to "play" with him. We all loved Tiger, but for some reason he had kidney stones that ended up killing him. He died at the modest age of four. He was silly, and one time he tried to go through the back door, and got stuck between the screen door and the wooden door. That would have been the one time our family could have stood a chance on AFV.
Pet #4 was Shadow. We had her all of a month. She set off our allergies like nobodies' business. At least we could let Tiger roam the world whenever he wanted to.

My fictional characters tend to have pets that double in function. One of them

Leaving [19 Sep 2008|09:11am]
She's finally gone. She's gone, and she took THEM with her! I'm so happy! It's been... three? years since we first agreed to help. Three years of hell. With the big one being a jerk, the only daughter being a bit of a strumpet, and the two youngest being Captain Erzats and Kid Caffeine, it's not been easy.

But I enjoyed it. I enjoyed helping them. They became good friends, and I can rely on any one of them in a pinch. Even the one who tried to kill me because I unplugged his alarm clock. Meh, he was unbalanced at the time, and he almost lost his thumb because of it. I kinda miss them. I also learned alot about how to fight thanks to them. I discovered taht I cna run fast when the situation calls for it (although I'd still be fairly slow in comparison), and I learned how to shrug off pain. They left part of them in me, and I think that they took part of me with them, too. I know that they will not be leaving the memories of those years any time soon. It's too close to them. If we hadn't helpeed them, they could have died. Even the "bad guy", the cause for it all, was grateful that we helped them. Filler filler filler. I need to fill the time with typing, so here's some random stuff.

"We left from Kauya-Kusl-Amarron the next day. She was happy, and I was happy. We flew on the back of her Wyvern to the land of the dragon king, Ryamos. We knew that either of us could die, but we not only had ach othter, but we also had a sense of urgency. Trading one evil for another, yes, but the village would rather pay tribute to a dragon once a year than live under the profane tyrant..."

Denial of Muslim-ism? [05 Sep 2008|12:00pm]
[ mood | WTF? ]

"I was looking at Obama's website, and I noticed the "Truth about Obama's Faith" page.

So, I decided to check it out. http://my.barackobama.com/page/invite/christian

Wait, he's a Christian? Okay, I guess that's okay. I wasn't voting for him anyway, but it's good to know your enemy.

Except that he's making Islam sound like it's some sort of Horendous Evil of Biblical Proportions. I'm not a Muslim, but I know that most of them are good people. It's like with the Mormons. The media portrayal does not match the reality.

So, I decided to read the page.

My first thoughts were WTF? )

Lie: Barack Obama refused to appear in a number of press conferences, calling the questions as "Hard".

Kauya-Kusl-Amarron [05 Sep 2008|10:39am]
[ mood | I need something to DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! ]
[ music | Relax ]

I looked up and saw the shadowed mountain, Kauya-Kusl-Amarron. There were clouds surrounding the top, but that was to be expected for the home of a Wind Witch. She hadn't lived there long; in fact June had just come here from our hometown of Aria Melei about a month ago.

"June!" I cried out. "June, can you hear me?"

A voice, faint and distant, but filled with determination, replied "I don't want to go back, you jackass!". The winds strenthened, blocking my progress, and I knew it was her anger that was causing this.

"I'm not here to take you back, June. I came to apologize."

"For what?"

"I know you're angry with me, June. I can still sense your emotions from down here."

"..."

"I'm coming up, June. I need to do this to your face."

"Okay."

There was a note of hesitation, but the winds abated. I knew the area well, and took the cave path to the one place where I knew she would be. It led to a small cliff further up the mountain, and it was here that I found her. I could sense her anger, but there was a hint of sadness as well. Her sky-blue hair hair had a dusty look to it, and her golden eyes still held the defiance and rage that were there when I had last seen her.

"June... I'm sorry."

"It's not you I'm angry with."

"I should have told you sooner."

"... why her?"

"Because..." My vision blurred, and I could hear the tears in my voice as I spoke the next words. "I love you too much."

"What does that have to-"

"I've seen what happened to the others! You remember what happened to Kaj and Lyn? When Lyn was sent to meet the Dragons, she never came home. Kaj never got over that!"

"I'm not Lyn. I know the Dragons."

"But I didn't want to risk losing you."

"Lose me? To what?"

"To someone else."

"..." I felt her hand on my shoulder, and her anger was abating. "You know I would never leave you. But, you swore that your emotions would never get in the way of protecting them. You knew I was the only one that could convince the Dragons."

"I know, but I'm not the perfect man."

"You are... for me. You were, are, the only one to accept me as a person, not as a monster. Nobody else in Aria Melei say me as anything but the Sky Demon that I am."

"What about Mark?"

"Mark was a special case. He knew I was trying to become a human, and he tried to help me, but he could never overcome the fact that I was directly responsable for the death of Lulu."

"You don't know that-"

"If Lulu hadn't tried to save me, she'd still be alive!"

"If Lulu hadn't tried to save you, she'd be the one here, hiding from everybody! She saw you for who you could become! She knew you had a special future!"

"It was my fault that Groh was awakened to begin with!"

"... but things got better."

"Not for Lulu and Mark! Mark hates me, I know it."

"He misses you, you know."

"Yeah, right."

"You know you're like a daughter to him. Running away won't make it any easier for him!"

"... I guess you're right. Was Anna able to get to Ryama?"

"She's too worried about you to go."

"That's a lie."

"You don't know that." I moved to leave. "I decided to come to apologize to you before heading out."

"Heading out?"

"To Ryama."

"You'll get killed!"

"Maybe, but it's better than waiting for Kradaj to find the village. I figure that this is the best way for me to fix my mistake."

She just stood there, amazed at this last statement. I took this as my chance to leave. Back outside the cave, I saddled up my Wryx. From above, I heard a Wyvern's cry, and I felt June's excitement as her steed landed next to mine. There was a smile on her face, and her eyes were filled with joy.

"Wait for me, you jackass!"

I couldn't help smiling.

Pressure of the masses

Letting people convince you that you're not perfect in every way is a bad thinkg. MAn is, by nature a beast that learns form its mistakes. If man never made mistakes, man would cease to be man. Erin made a mistake, and she learned from it. Granted, it almost killed her, but she became wiser, stronger, more human than before.

She mentions "someone else's voice" when she refers to her convincing herself to go on a non-diet. That's bad news, man. "I could feel like I belonged in their wolrd". :Let them have their woeld. You don't live in theirs, you live in yours! If you lived in theirs, though, you'd still be doing this, thinking "I wish I wasn't so imperfect". When you start to do something over and over agaion, it becomes a habit. We are creatures of habit. So e are better than others, but deep down er all have the desire to belong. This is where the voice of the masses erturns to us. We can hear what Socuety tells us, whaat we believe ins expected of us. Eventually, we reach the point where we are riules by society instead of the other way around.

Funny rhing about being creatures of habit, it also forces other people to expect us to act the in the same manner each time they see us. If I pick my ass as a ball game, people will expect me to pick my ass at every ball game. So, those times when I do not pick my ass are considered the exception rahter than the rule, even if my picking my ass was a one-time event. So, we are creatures of habit and we expect the same pattern of behavior. Eh, I guess that I'd have to pick my ass at my forst two ball games for it to be expectded. Anyway, when we do not fit what is expected of us, we get those looks of "Who the HELL are you, and what have you done with (name)?"

I Remember 9/3/08 [03 Sep 2008|09:26am]
[ mood | Got Class? ]

I remember that there was a light. It wasn't bright or dim, but it was there. "What is it doing there?" I remember asking.
A hollow voice, one that I can't attatch a name to, responded "It is there for you to take. It is yours, and it is not for others."
I am referring to the time that I "invented" Veldania, the land of my dreams. It was a lime-shaped land mass, somewhere in the Atlantic ocean. It's official language was Gibberish. No, I am not making this up. Well, okay, the conversation I remember imagining five seconds before writing it. But Veldania was real to me. It was a place where all my dreams became... well, not real, but they certainly weren't just dreams anymore. I could chat with Sonic the Hedgehog one minute, and the next I was fighting along Sailor Moon (don't ask) against a shadowy blob. That light is my imagination, and I have decided to share it with the worrld. I remember this one time at band camp... wait, I was never at Band Camp. Never mind. You see, that's the sort of stuff. I can pretend that I was at band camp. I used to take music books, sheet music, and play little "platformers" with the markings. (It was because of this, by the way, that I became a flautist.) I also remember my first flute lesson with Heather Verbeck. You have to blow across the top of the hole, not into it. Stand up straight. I took to the flute like a duck to water.

I remember many other things, but my time on this freewrite is running out. Maybe I should start posting fiction to LJ...

IDS 100 Freewrite [02 Sep 2008|02:35pm]
[ mood | Class ]

In this story, we see Rabbit and company devising a plan in which Roo is taken from Kanga in an attempt to remove them from the 100-Aker wood. Of course, it fails like a lea lead balloon when Kang Kango Kanga decides to play along and starts calling Piglet Roo after discovering that it' is not Roo. Christopher Robin shows up and also plays along, but Piglet ex escapes somehow and gets Rabbit to send Room b Roo back (which I thkin Think rabbit would habe been glad ton do antyway, given how much hopping Roo did do.) My hand itches. The plot to remove Kanga and Roo (you can, guru, you can!" shouted Newt. "You can send hom with Owl") The plot ot get Kanga and Roo to leave was that Roo would disappear, and would be returned on the condition that Kanga and Roo never returned. This led to the dilemma of "How do we ger Kanga to no t knotice that Roo is gone", which led to Piglet ben being chosen to be a t replaceme t tor for Roo. Something aboutn "Aha!" In any event, nobody remembered to follow through with the plan, Ed. BEar having been caught in another jar of honey (!! Early Flanderization example: A one-tome quirk of Pooh's, the going into the sky to get honey, became a running character trait in all subsequent stories !!), and Rabbit being himself. Since Christopher Robin played along with Kango 30 more seconds, must complete this thought Since Christopher Robin payed along with Kanga in preetendng that Piglet was Roo, this ended up being a good event for all. Played along, I mena.
